Abbreviations:

SACNU - South African Cloth Nappy Users

LNP - Loan Nappy Pack Nappy = Diaper

SAPO - South African Post Office HQ = Headquarters

1. Nappies (maximum of three) are sent to you clean and disinfected (hot wash & bleach). Please return them to us washed and dried.

The nappies supplied by SACNU can be used for two weeks (14 days). The loan period starts from the day you collect the LNP from your local Post Office (or the day courier delivered). We would like to have the return tracking number by the end of the two week period. It is the borrower's responsibility to return the nappies via SAPO or courier (with tracking number). R50 will be deducted from your deposit for every week or part of a week you fail to supply us with the return tracking number. Please respect our time guidelines as there might be another client waiting on the nappies you have for their LNP.

Please return the wetbag and everything with the “SACNU” woven label sewn to it.

You may keep the nappy liners and the boerseep sample.

2. Due to our current small loan library you can't choose gender specific colours/prints.

3. Nappies are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. A waiting list may be in operation. In order to be on the waiting list you must have placed your order for the LNP and paid for the service.

4. We understand that sometimes nappies will be lightly stained but deductions will be taken from the deposit should nappies come back damaged or poorly washed. This is to cover the cost of washing, stain treating or replacing the nappy/nappies.

5. We will provide you with 20 liners. They will be a mixture of brandnames which we will mark for your convenience.

Please buy your own if you finish the provided liners. You may use disposable or reusable liners. Cherubs sell a nappy liner which is available at most stores with a baby section (Checkers, Pick 'n Pay, Spar). Please note that the Cherubs liners are not flushable.

Washing instructions:

Preparation:

Remove all solids from the nappy before placing them in a dry bucket or wet bag. You may use the wetbag provided. If using pocket nappies, remove the inserts from the pocket before putting everything in the container/wetbag.

Please rinse a nappy that has been used overnight before storing it in a dry bucket. We require this due to a night nappy containing more urine than day time nappies.

Do not leave the nappies in a dry bucket for longer than three days. You may add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil to the bottom of the container if you like.

If the nappies have velcro, it is important to stick them together before you wash them or stick them to the little piece of material on the nappy for that purpose. Otherwise the nappies will stick to each other during your washing cycle.

Washing:

You may use your usual laundry detergent to wash the nappies, as long as it does not contain softener. You may rub some Boerseep (provided in your LNP) on stains before washing them in your washing machine. Please check the label or contact us if you're not sure about your laundry detergent. If you have rinsed the nappies you can add them to your other laundry. Alternatively you can just add a few towels to the washing load to get proper agitation during the washing cycle.

Do not wash hotter than 60°C. You may wash in cold water, just increase the amount of detergent then.

Do not soak the nappies.

Do not use any softener. (Softener inhibits the absorption).

First do a cold rinse to remove the urine and any remaining poop from the nappies, then do a proper wash (use your machine's longest cycle).

[After you have run a rinse cycle of the nappies you can wash them with your normal laundry. Otherwise, just add one or two towels to the three nappies if you don't want to wash them with your normal laundry.]

Use your longest washing cycle. Do not use a short or delicate cycle.

Nappies must smell clean when they come out of your washing machine.

Drying:

Line dry in the sun. Alternatively they can be hung indoors on a clothing drying rack (clothes horse) or tumble dried on low. Make sure that PUL (the waterproof laminate) does not face the sun.
